On October 1, the Liturgical Bible Study Group of the Filipino Chaplaincy hosted its third Bible Encounter at Sing Yin Secondary School. The memorable gathering brought together believers from across the territory for an afternoon filled with faith, vibrant fellowship, and spirited competition.
The event kicked off at noon with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. A total of 22 teams participated, creating an atmosphere charged with enthusiasm.
This year’s competition tested participants on their deep understanding of the Old Testament and Deuterocanonical texts, specifically covering the books of 1 and 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, as well as 1 and 2 Maccabees.
Following an exciting series of rounds, three teams distinguished themselves at the top of the competition. The Gate Keepers from the Trinity Chapel of the Visitation Parish claimed the first prize. The second prize was awarded to the Victors from St. Benedict Parish in Shatin Wai, while Builders of Faith from St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Kwun Tong secured the third prize.
Filipino chaplain Father Jay Flandez expressed his gratitude as he reflected on the growth of the Liturgical Bible Study Group over the years.
While this marks a continuing tradition of scripture study initiated by the organisers since 2023, the event continues to grow in scope. Looking ahead, the chaplaincy’s next Bible Encounter will take place on 13 May 2027.
Shifting its focus, the upcoming spring edition will be opened to Hong Kong-based civic organisations, with the coverage transitioning to the New Testament Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
