In this 40-day period leading up to Easter, and as a Catholic, I have done more reflections on my faith. This time allows me to confront internal conflicts, such as temptations, pride, and comfort that lead me away from God. I focus on abstaining from earthly desires through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving to the poor. This season represents hope and rebirth rather than hopelessness.

Growing up as a Gen Z Catholic, I’ve seen how technology shapes life, but Lent keeps me rooted in tradition. As I become more aware of my faith, this season has become a time for learning, reflection, and growth. Lent isn’t just about rituals; it’s about opening my heart to God through prayer, sacrifices, practicing forgiveness, and developing self-discipline. Even if I don’t fully understand everything, I’m using this season to improve myself.

In Lent, I focus on deepening my faith, growing spiritually, and strengthening my relationship with God. I start each day with prayer, take moments to converse with God, and make sacrifices with good intentions. I strive to assist others in need. To me, Lent isn’t about being perfect; it’s about growing deeper in faith.

The three pillars of Lent are prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. We deepen our prayer life through reading scripture and incorporating prayer into daily actions. We fast, such as avoiding meat on Fridays, and limit indulgences like excessive social media. We practice charity and avoid harmful speech. Above all, we should remember that God loves us so much he gave his only Son. These practices should be lived year-round.

In Lent, I first go to confession and seek forgiveness from Jesus. I attend Mass regularly, spend time in adoration, reduce social media use, and help others without being asked. I also read the daily Gospel, reflect on it, and participate in online Mass. Praying the Rosary and reflecting on Jesus’s Paschal Mystery helps me fully engage in Lent. Our Christian life centres around the pillars of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

I engage in Lent through prayer and meditation. I practice fasting by limiting food and abstaining from gossip and distractions. I remove anything that interferes with my prayer time. I also share blessings through almsgiving, helping by sharing food with the hungry and visiting the sick, along with praying for those in need and for the faithful departed.
