The Diocese of Hong Kong invites the faithful to unite in generosity and purpose by taking part in the 2025 Fundraising Walkathon, “A Walk to Nurture Creation.” More than just a gathering, this event is a chance to strengthen our faith, build community bonds, and contribute to the establishment of a much-needed place of worship in Tung Chung. With a growing Catholic population, the urgency for a dedicated church has never been greater. The future Visitation of Our Lady Church will not only provide a sacred space for Mass and sacraments but will also serve as a hub for pastoral care, faith formation, and social outreach.
On 23 February 2025, participants will embark on a journey of faith from Tung Chung MTR Exit B to Tung Chung East Promenade. This route represents more than a scenic path; it symbolises the collective effort to bring this vision to life. Cardinal Stephen Chow, S.J., bishop of Hong Kong, will officiate both the kick-off ceremony and the blessing and commissioning ceremony in Tung Chung.
For those seeking a deeper experience, optional activities include a visit to Our Lady of Visitation Chapel at 13 Shang Ling Pei, Tung Chung, and an exploration of the Tung Chung New Church site. The event’s final destination will feature an engaging lineup of activities, including live music, jazz performances, and eco-themed exhibits highlighting Lantau Island’s breathtaking panoramic scenery. An exhibition will be open in the morning, showcasing key features such as a time tunnel, a virtual simulation of Lantau’s environment, and an interactive town planning game.
The diocese has launched an ambitious fundraising campaign to ensure the success of this vital project. A newly introduced online donation platform makes contributions simple and accessible. Individuals and parishes can create personalised fundraising pages, allowing for broader community engagement. Traditional donation forms remain available for those who prefer offline methods. Donors also have the special opportunity to inscribe their names or the names of saints on church pews, leaving a lasting legacy within this sacred space.
This initiative is about more than financial contributions—it is a testament to faith in action. By walking, donating, or spreading awareness, every Catholic has the chance to play a vital role in shaping the future of the Church in Tung Chung. The diocese urges the faithful to participate wholeheartedly, knowing that every step taken and every prayer offered brings this vision closer to reality.
The success of this campaign depends on the unity and generosity of the Catholic community. Through faith, perseverance, and shared commitment, the dream of a new church will soon become a reality. Now is the time to embrace this call, to walk together in faith, and to build a spiritual home where the growing Catholic community of Tung Chung can gather, worship, and thrive. Let this walkathon be a reflection of the unwavering strength of our Catholic family and the power of collective mission and service. jose, CMF
