HONG KONG (SE): The Diocesan Pastoral Centre for Workers-Hong Kong Island organised a Lunar New Year Party to bring joy to over 15 families on January 19, reminding those present of the importance of hope.
The programme included face and hand painting, parent-child games, balloon modelling, singing and magic shows. Participants were also offered snacks, as well as gifts and lucky bags.
Antonio Tsui, centre supervisor, encouraged participants to cherish what they already have while pursuing their goals, particularly the support of their family.
The centre had organised outreach initiatives for cleaning workers and families facing financial challenges before the event. On January 18, it distributed 500 lucky bags donated by St. Margaret’s Parish, Happy Valley, to the cleaning workers in North Point. A group of students from Shue Yan University, North Point, also joined the gathering that day to learn more about the situation of cleaning workers.
On January 16 and 17, the centre also organised a sales event offering daily necessities to nearly 50 families at subsidised prices with the support of Sen Yan Charities Foundation.
According to Tsui, the centre will keep offering services to support the daily lives of the low-income families and the elderly. For example, free eye examinations will be provided in another event in March.
