How do you view your work? A call or a duty?

It is God’s plan for me to work here in Hong Kong. It is meant to happen. God gives us blessings, gifts and talents to share. It is God’s calling for me to share his gifts. Being a commentator, lector and server in the Church is a blessing and a way for me to thank God for all his goodness. It is a call from God to follow him. It is not easy because of all the trials and temptations in life. Through our faith and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, he makes us realise how to be a better Christian and a good follower of God.

I see my work as a call from God. It is not even work, but a privilege to share his goodness with the community. He has called me to do the duty of praising and serving him, and he knows the abilities I have. I share what I have with the people around me, with the community and the Church that I’m a part of, because I know that God is with me and he is leading and guiding me. At the end of the day, we are all his servants and God determines and assigns our roles. — Melodyann Racca Alauig

By doing my work is a mission, I am not only working for my family but also for those in need, because God said that whatever you do for the least of your brothers or sisters, you have done for me.

For me, work is a vocation which can be either a call from God or a duty to God. It is a call from God when the work is voluntary, such as social service or Church service. It is a duty to God when it is done for the purpose of earning money — to survive, feed the family, pay the bills, etc., and thus give a sense of purpose and fulfilment in life.  As what St Josemaria Escriba taught us, we must sanctify our work not only by intending to do it well, but also by encountering Jesus: doing our tasks not only for him, but with him, and that will completely change the meaning of our work.

I see my work as both a call from God and a duty to God. I have always believed that everything I do, whether for my family, for friends, for the community, for the parish or for the company, is part of God’s plan. It is he who calls me to do the work in his name (“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit” Jn 15:16) and it is our duty to fulfil the work He wants us to do.

As a daughter, sister, mother and member of the MLM?? community, it is my calling to participate in a mission of the Church such as evangelisation. I believe that God created me with a purpose in my life and I’m where I’m supposed to be. I can show it or apply it in my life by how I treat the people around me, by showing kindness, by reaching out to those who need it. Helping others no matter how small it is. Being poor or rich is not an excuse to not give a hand to those who need it

I see my work as a calling from God, because in this work I have a deeper connection with him. I believe that God has placed me in my current work for a reason, to help my family, the people I work with and those who are in need. God has called me into this work because he knows that I can glorify him through this work, and it is my duty to live out God’s love in my work.

Serving the Lord is my calling. As I serve him, I grow closer to him and my knowledge expands to be receptive to his call, grace and mercy, to be honest and truthful, and to be a good person.
