
BANGKOK (RVA News): On May 26, Catholics in Thailand celebrated the 40th anniversary of Pope St. John Paul II’s state visit to the Kingdom of Thailand, which took place from 1- to 11 May 1984. The event was jointly organided by the Thai Apostolic Nunciature and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland.
Several key officials attended the event, including Artur Dmochowski, ambassador of Poland; Archbishop Peter Bryan Wells, apostolic nuncio to Thailand and Cambodia; Mother General Myriam Kitcharoen, of the Sisters of Saint Paul of Cardinal Chartres, honorary chairperson of the event; and Francis Xavier Kriengsak Kovithavanij, the archbishop of Bangkok, among others.
Other religious leaders and members of civil society also joned in the programme.
The Holy Redeemer Church in Bangkok organised an exhibition, from 8.00am to 5.00pm and will run until June 29.
