HONG KONG (SE): Lucas Lam introduced his ambassador’s green wristband with the message “Behold I make all things new” during the morning Mass at St. Jerome’s Church in Tin Tsui Wai on April 21. Since wearing the wristband, Lam and his team have become child blessing ambassadors with a mission to share blessings with others. Lam urged everyone to join them in spreading God’s blessings.
Cardinal Stephen Chow, S.J., gave the wristband to eight child delegates during the commissioning ceremony at St. Ignatius Chapel as a reminder to love others. The delegates, chosen from different deaneries in Hong Kong, will participate in the first World Children’s Day in Rome on May 25 and 26.
Ten-year-old Lucas spoke at the altar and shared how inspired he was by Cardinal Stephen’s story of hope. The story was about a young girl’s plant that blossomed in her neighbour’s home and gave hope to a sick old woman living there. After hearing the story, Lucas realised that he, too, could give encouragement to others. He shared his strengthened determination to become an altar boy.
Icy Chan, mother of Lucas Lam, shared that her son is a Sunday school student and a member of a child missionary group of the parish, doing charity work from time to time.
She hopes the event will take place annually to give younger teenagers, like her son, proper formation. She has noticed that her son has become stronger in faith as he prepares for the journey and has been eager to study the background of pilgrimage spots in Rome. This has helped him understand the true meaning of the trip.
Moreover, she is of the opinion that the World Children’s Day could provide children with important opportunities for development, considering the limited number of community activities available in the Church for children of her son’s age, prior to them reaching the minimum age requirement for altar servers or youth groups.
