(SE): On Thursday 25 January 2024, the Vatican Press Office reported that the Reverend Taddeo Wang Yuesheng received episcopal consecration, following his appointment by the Holy Father on 16 December 2023 as Bishop of Zhengzhou, in Henan, China, in the framework of the Provisional Agreement on episcopal appointments between the Holy See and the People’s Republic of China.

Fides reported that the diocese has been without a bishop for 70 years.

The episcopal ordination was celebrated in the Church of Qinghuayuanlu in Huiji District, dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes. The liturgy was celebrated by Bishop Joseph Shen Bin of Shanghai, concelebrated by Bishop Joseph Yang Yongqiang of Zhoucun, Bishop Joseph Zhang Yinlin of Anyang, Fides reported. Bishop Peter Jin Lugang of Nanyang, and more than 300 priests, nuns and faithful from all the dioceses in the province also participated in the liturgy.

Bishop Wang was born in Zhumadian, Henan, on 27 February 1966, and attended courses in philosophy and theology at the Centre South Seminary from 1987 to 1993. He was ordained a priest in Hankou on 17 October 1993. He has held the office of parish priest in Zhengzhou.

Since December 2011 was parish priest in the District of Huiji, in Zhengzhou.
