Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Together We Light Up Lives
The Master said, “At fifteen, I had my mind bent on learning. At thirty, I stood firm. At forty, I had no doubts. At fifty, I knew the decrees of Heaven. At sixty, my ear was an obedient organ for the reception of truth. At seventy, I could follow what my heart desired, without transgressing what was right.” (Wei Chang, Confucian Analects)
The ancients said that people at the age of 70 can live by their hearts and do as they like. For an organization celebrating its 70th anniversary, it is a valuable opportunity to review and to look ahead. Planning for succession, analyzing challenges and possibilities, anticipating for changes and making arrangements for planned development to maintain sustainability are vital at this stage.
Time flies and things have been changing over the past 70 years. We are faced with an aging population, growing disparities of wealth, pressure in economic development, changes in family structures, physical and psychological burden on caregivers, increasing demands for special learning needs, the appalling living environment of subdivided flats, and more. Behind the city’s prosperity, there are still a myriad of social issues that have yet to be resolved.
“Caritas Family, Caritas Love, Caritas Bonding”—Notwithstanding the passing of time, Caritas has, since its establishment, upheld its primary mission of “Love in the Service of Hope”. Under the leading and guidance of God, it has weathered the storms and walks with its service clients. While setbacks and obstacles are unavoidable, with the hard work of colleagues, selfless dedication of volunteers, unfailing trust from service clients and generous supports from benefactors, Caritas is able to light up the lives of the disadvantaged in our society with love and hope.
“I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit.” (John 15:5)
The way we connected to God is just like the vine and the branches. Branches link with the tree, absorb the nutrients to grow and bear fruit. Similarly, by abiding in God’s commandments, we gain wisdom from his words, we learn to share and to have gratitude, and we practice our faith in words and in deeds.
This year’s Caritas Fund Raising Campaign is about to commence. Let us respond actively to God’s call of love, give generously and bring the spirit of mutual assistance into full play. With joint efforts, more brothers and sisters can experience joy and peace in God’s love.
“So, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in him, rooted in him and built upon him and established in the faith as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” (Colossians 2:6-7)

With blessings and prayers,
