Catholic Church returns to Hong Kong Book Fair

HONG KONG (SE): Following the Covid-19 pandemic, the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong resumed its participation in the Hong Kong Book Fair, held this year from July 19 to 25 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Wan Chai. The theme of event is “Encountering the Lord through Joyful Reading” in the hope that people of all ages and from all walks of life will be able to come closer to God through reading.

A blessing ceremony was officiated by vicar general, Father Peter Choy Wai-man, in which he commissioned the staff at the booth, exhorting them to receive each visitor with a joyful heart and invite them to know Jesus Christ more.

Father Choy said he was delighted to see the Catholic Church take part in the book fair again after the pandemic. “It is hoped that through this participation, we can share the work of the Catholic press and the messsage of the gospel with the public,” he said. He was also glad that the Catholic booths were located in a more accessible place on the first floor this year.

He encouraged those present to introduce their faith in a joyful way and thanked the Catholic press who express their faith through words, attractive images or videos. “But a deeper knowledge is through Jesus Christ who is both divine and human, who can go through heaven and earth. Through him people can see the invisible God. So in our booth, besides the beautiful decorations and outstanding products, what more important is all of you. Through your introduction and reception, people can see further the presence of invisible God. This is our mission in this booth today,” Father Choy said.

He expressed his gratitude to the staff, especially the volunteers, for their patience and time in sharing their faith and hope with visitors.

Organisations taking part in the event include the Catholic Centre, the Kung Kao Po, the Diocesan Audio Visual Centre, the Catholic Truth Society and Spring Publications as well as other members of the Catholic press.
