My devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary

My devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary

In the month dedicated to our Lady, a favorite popular devotion “Flores de Mayo” reminds the faithful to nurture the faith and love of the Lord Jesus through his Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary. We should foster this devotion so that it will never go away. As a legionary of The Door of Heaven Presidium at St. Joseph Church, the Mid-Levels, we used to have our daily rosary and daily novena to the Blessed Mother, accompanied by hymns throughout the offering. Her statue reminds us of her holiness and her intercession for us. No matter what our age or background is,  we can foster a tender hearted love for the Blessed Virgin Mary as well.

I am a member of the St.Teresa Filipino Catholic Community and a member of the Legion of Mary, we celebrate the Flores de Mayo, a festival in the month of May honouring the Blessed Mother. We strengthen our devotion by reciting the Glorious Mystery and offer white flowers to our Lady while meditating on her virtues. It is right to give Mother Mary a special honour or devotion for the unique and extraordinary role she played and the virtue and grace she possessed.

In Catholic tradion, Flores de Mayo is the spiritual symbolism in our Catholic faith. This is a re-enactment of finding the true Cross, where Jesus died and was found by Reyna Elena. It is not only offering of flowers but Flores de Mayo reminds us of Jesus’ sufferings for the forgiveness of our sins. In our part as his followers and servants we need to give our heart and soul to Jesus Christ our Saviour and redeemer by serving others through the Church or community we belong.

I do not belong to any Marian Group or the Legion of Mary. But I show my devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary by praying the Holy Rosary every day. I believe that by doing so, we can show respect to her, and that we accept the important role she has in our faith and in the life of our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Mama Mary is an intercessor to our prayers. As my devotion to her, I pray the rosary daily and recite the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Then, as much as possible I will offer flowers to her in the altar or grotto. I do not belong to any Marian group but I love our heavenly Mother.

I was a very devoted member of the Legion of Mary when I was still single until I got married. However I still continue my Marian devotion even though I do not join the legionary meetings every Sunday morning. I would pray the rosary every day and recite Mama Mary’s litany. I talk to her in prayers and ask her intercession and protection for my family and myself.

The month of May is a long month dedicated to Mother Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth. Being a Legionary of Our Lady of Salvation Praesdium at St. Joseph Church, Kowloon since 2015, I deepen my devotion and my love to the Blessed Mother through prayers and outreach. By doing this, we are sharing the good news about the virtues of the Blessed Mother, that she is the Mediatrix of all Grace. “To Jesus Through Mary” where I always feel her intercession in everything I prayed for.
