HONG KONG (SE): The vocation office of the Salesian China Province held its fifth Monthly Vocation Camp for this academic year from April 21 to 22 in Hong Kong. Eleven young people from Salesian institutions and some parishes in the diocese attended the camp.

The theme of the camp was The Presence of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the purpose was to help participants understand the presence of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the lives of the two saints, St. Francis de Sales and St. John Bosco, so that the they would recognise the importance of always seeking the blessing of Our Lady in the process of discerning their vocation.

The evening began with dinner and the recitation of the Rosary, followed by an ice-breaking game called “How much do you know about the name of Our Lady?” In reviewing her different names, participants were invited to rekindle their love for her.

They were divided into two groups with each given five minutes to review, share and memorise the different titles of Our Lady. Each group prepared a short story of St. Francis De Sales’ and St. John Bosco’s responses to their vocations with the assistance of the Blessed Mother.

After compline, during the goodnight talk given by Father Carlos Cheung, the vocations director of the China Province, participants were reminded that both St. Francis and St. John had faced many difficulties in responding to their vocations. He also shared that his grandmother’s influence on his vocation had him to start the habit of praying the Rosary and the Litany of Loreto.

He also encouraged all the young people to participate in Salesian Vocation Day on May 6 in the Salesian Missionary House, Shaukiwan.

The April vocation camp ended the following day with a Mass, a sharing session and a soccer game.
