HONG KONG (SE): Members of the Diocesan Pastoral Sisters’ Association met with Bishop Stephe Chow Sau Yan, SJ, at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, Caine Road, on March 8, International Women’s Day. This was the bishop’s first meeting with the association.

Bishop Chow greeted the sisters and commended them on their service and said that the Pastoral Sisters’ Association played a significant role. He encouraged the sisters to reach out to the people in community as people of mission.

Speaking about the pastoral priorities of the diocese, the bishop said that the Church needs to focus on young people and give them opportunities to use their talents and gifts as the diocese is focusing on the formation of clergy, the religious and lay people. The bishop also expressed concern about the future of the children of asylum seekers and migrant workers.

According to Sister Regina Lito, of the Disciples of the Divine Master, vice-chairperson of the association, the meeting was also a chance for the association to introduce itself to the bishop. They spoke to him about the apostolic and pastoral works they do in the parishes and the community in general, in collaboration with parish priests and lay leaders, and how they share the Good News in the spirit of synodality.

“We are delighted with the bishop’s sharing and challenges for us,” said Maryknoll Sister Esther Warioba, secretary of the association.

The association holds quarterly meetings at the different parishes where they serve and occasionally invites speakers to give them a renewed view of the Church and society.
