Mary said, “Yes” to God’s Will at the Annunciation
She gave her Fiat to her God, and became a Mother to the Son
She said yes to the angel and so began the incarnation
The God Man would be received by her.
She would carry him, and nurture him
From the safe refuge of her holy womb
Until he was laid in a borrowed tomb.
Quietly and faithfully she cared for him
With Joseph alongside as helper and guide
Jesus grew in stature and obedience
To the earthly parents whom God had given
And Mary pondered all these things in her heart
Knowing that she and her Son were set apart.
Soon, Mary would know it was time
For her Son’s mission on earth to be manifest
When at a wedding feast they were welcome guests.
The wine which was customary for the feast
On such a joyous occasion would soon be deplete.
Mary realised the hosts would be embarrassed
If the wedding guests were not replete
With the heart-warming nectar of the vine.
Inspired by the Holy Spirit, her spouse
She approached her Son to work a miracle for the wine.
“Do whatever he tells you,” was her direction
Even though Jesus said it wasn’t his time.
Again Mary pronounced her fiat
She reaffirmed her yes
By giving Jesus her request
She was giving him to the world
And relinquishing her bequest.
She understood the scriptures
And knew her Son would suffer and would die
It was the Father’s plan for redemption
For fallen mankind needed salvation.
And now his hour had arrived
To begin his public ministry for the kingdom
And the price for sin would be satisfied.
