W henever I pray I always ask the intercession of Mother Mary to lead me into a deeper relationship with Jesus. We pray to saints because they are already in heaven and they can intercede for us. Our Mother Mary is considered to be the most meritorious saint. I always seek her intercession and my prayers were heard when my child passed her licensure examinations for nurses. Through her motherly intercession my family is well protected even though I am far away from them.

I was diagnosed with cervical cancer on the first week of November last year. Though there was inner fear and anxiety when the result came out, nevertheless my faith was not shaken. Every day I pray the Novena to the Black Nazarene and Our Blessed Mother Mary. Day and night I implore for God’s mercy and the intercession of Mother Mary to heal me from this cancer and to guide the medical team handling my case. My prayers were answered. When I had a follow-up check up in May this year, my CT scan showed no cancerous cells. I would like to share with others afflicted with cancer not to feel hopeless because through prayers, miracles do happen. Faith and the acceptance of God’s will is most important.

The saint closest to me, where I have felt and received his powerful intercession is St. Anthony of Padua, Patron Saint of Preachers, the Lost and Stolen articles. It has been my prayer after my three years in Hong Kong, to go back into my lost profession which is teaching. In January 2016, I dropped by St. Anthony of Padua, Singalong Parish, Manila, where my priest friend, Father Reigan Joseph, lives as Assistant Parish Priest, when I had my vacation. I prayed to God to make a way for me to go back into the teaching profession, by invoking St. Anthony of Padua. That day his relics from Lisbon, visited the parish. To make the long story short, I got a teaching job and now I am in my fourth year working in the Department of Education in my hometown from June 2016 till present. I owe it to the powerful help and intercession of St. Anthony of Padua. The profession which was lost from me due to my decision to work abroad for six years is regained.

I do not pray to a specific saint but I ask blessings from the Lord in my daily prayers. God is always good for he answers all my wishes and prayers. I talk to him like a child talking to her father. I share with the Lord my joys and sufferings. He uses people to be his instruments in answering my prayers. I believe that if we pray with faith and humility, the Lord will not give us a deaf ear.

St. Joseph the Worker has always been my favourite saint. I know he is the patron saint of the family specially the fathers. He is also the patron saint of immigrants, workers, employments and for a happy death. I pray to him to protect my family and to bless me in my work here in Hong Kong and to be able to achieve my goals. When my father got sick and was expected to live for no more than three months, I implored St. Joseph that in the few months of my father’s life on earth, may we as family be able to show our love to our father and make him happy. I prayed that there will be reconciliation in our family. I prayed also for my father to have peace in his heart and a happy death when the time comes for him to return to the Lord. I think truly my prayers were heard. My father asked for forgiveness from my mother and us. We all took care of him as a family despite the financial struggles we were facing. And most of all we were beside him when he breathed his last.

I often prayed for the intercession of St. Augustine in my hometown in Baliwag, Bulacan and asked him to intercede for me in my l needs. Before deciding to work abroad, I prayed to him for guidance for this plan as I attended Mass every day. I was guided through my prayers as I dealt with the procedures to work overseas. Now I am blessed that I was given a good opportunity to work abroad plus a bonus of being blessed with a kind-hearted employer.

I prayed for the intercession of Pope Saint John Paul II for my sister to pass her college admission exams in West Visayas State University and during the time when she was going to have her interview. My sister delivered her answers with eloquence and wisdom and passed her exams.

I don’t particularly pray to any saint. I pray straight to the Lord. For intercession, I pray straight to God, and my prayers have been answered. I am a cancer patient and I am in my stage four. I have surrendered myself to him. I also asked him to use me as a channel and instrument of his love and peace so I can give him glory on whatever I do. My second life has been very fruitful and I know I have become his channel to be a blessing to many. There has been trials and challenges but this time circumstances have become lighter. I have become stronger and have more wisdom to properly face these challenges with ease.
