Coping with crippling crisis

Coping with crippling crisis

We have been waging war with this invisible foe named Covid-19 coronavirus for months now. How stealthily it crept and infiltrated our territory and silently slew everyone that crossed its path regardless of age, gender, social status or nationality. So ferocious was this unseen adversary that for a moment we stood aghast and horrified, as the seemingly impregnable massive wall we had built up crashed down with just one blow.

We boasted of our medical breakthroughs, our scientific knowledge, our economic development, our information technology, our expensive modern facilities and various innovations in our society. Yet  the virus caught us by surprise, and we found ourselves vulnerable, lame and unequipped.

We shudder at how powerfully this enemy was able to cripple our economy in so short a time with its punches. We become frantic seeing how it shut our churches, offices and schools, paralysed our businesses, transportation and sent us reeling back to the confines of our homes — our last fortress.

In the face of this pandemic, we realise that wealth cannot guarantee our safety. It makes us see that no country is invincible and we are all equal before this calamity. Covid-19 strips us of the cloak of false security we flaunt in the days of prosperity and chastens us of our pride and vanity.

Most importantly, it drives us to our knees and makes us seek the face of God who alone is able to save. With humble hearts we learn to admit our utter dependence upon him who reigns supreme in the universe and lovingly watches over us with tender mercy.

Though the death toll is increasing, our resources are waning, and our strength is failing, let us bravely hang on for we have a battle to win.

Hand in hand let us work together, support our frontliners and inspire one another to remain steadfast for the long night will soon be over.

After surpassing this crippling crisis, we will emerge on the other side better, wiser and stronger as a nation and as a people.
