HONG KONG (SE): Sing Yin Secondary School, New Clear Water Bay Road, celebrated its 50th Anniversary thanksgiving Mass in Christ the King Chapel, Causeway Bay on September 5.

In the homily, Cardinal Tong talked about the importance of gratitude, passion and hope for the school that has a long history of 50 years.
Sing Yin Secondary School was established by Father Patrick Canavan in 1969. Jubilee is a time of gratitude for the great efforts and sacrifices of the missionaries, staff, students and well wishers of the school.
Cardinal Tong also encouraged the school to share God’s love and hope to build a future. When one shares God’s love and grace with others, he would become a torch, which shines in the world.
Father Dhos, the school supervisor, said that Sing Yin has been providing boys in Kwun Tong with international insights for the past 50 years, and it would continue its work in the future.
The school will organise a series of activities to celebrate its 50th Anniversary, including open days in March 2020 and a musical, “The Story of St. Joseph Freinademetz SVD” in July 2020.
The school web page shows that the Divine Word Missionaries had taken the decision to establish a school in Hong Kong in 1966.
The school began functioning in at 11 On Tin Street, Lam Tin. In 2011 the school was moved to the new campus at New Clear Water Bay Road, and became the first environmental demonstration school in Hong Kong.
The Green Building Council of the United States awarded the school “The Greenest School On Earth” title in 2013.
