On October 5 the school term for the year 2020 to 2021 was started. The long wait is now over but this time not a face-to-face class is expected but a blended learning, which includes lesson modules complemented by TV and radio broadcasts as well as online learning.
Normally school always starts in June but it was moved to October due to Covid-19 pandemic. The Department of Education see to it the safety of the Filipino children and came up with the decision to study at home and be safe. Children are too young to take care and protect themselves.
Sure our children missed going to school. School days are irreplaceable because from there, they can build happy memories with classmates as well as the teachers. A school is children’s second home which mold their behaviour. At school they study together to know the meaning of good values, discover new things, gain knowledge and wisdom, play together to enhance social skills and learn to become better people.
This new normal way of learning is never easy for the children much more for parents and teahers. It adds extra workload and effort for parents to give time to teach their children at home. Also, a teacher’s commitment, love and passion for work is challenged too. But this pandemic is just a tiny obstacle to a heart willing to serve. Our vision for our children is big and wide.
In some mountainous areas where Internet connection is not accessible for online class, we feel sad that education for some is being sacrificed. We do not want to see a single Filipino child left behind or be deprived from receiving their right for education.
I know we are all tired and stressed. We pray that this pandemic will come to end the soonest. Having a spirit of optimism, I believe we can get through this tough times. We will do everything to help and protect God’s little creatures. They are hope of tomorrow’s sunshine.
