How to avoid impulsive buying?

How to avoid impulsive buying?

I can avoid impulsive buying by avoiding window shopping during holidays and ignoring the online sales item seen in Facebook. I get tempted to shop online specially if the items are offered at a special discount. So what I do to avoid temptation is not to look at them. I have bought a tent so, during my holidays, I can stay in a place where I cannot see things in the shops. Instead I only buy food and then go to a quiet place to rest and watch TV programmes with my phone.

Before I receive my salary, I already have budgeted it and I have a list of expenses to be incurred. First on my list is my remittance to my family. Then I deduct 20 per cent for my personal savings. I avoid going to places that would allure me to spend, like stores where sales are going on. When I go out, I bring just enough money for my necessities because if I bring extra, I will be tempted to spend more. The needs of my family is at the top of my priority list.  Sometimes I have to send extra specially if there are projects that need expenses. But I always avoid borrowing money from the bank. It is important to look at the needs but not the wants. By spending correctly and wisely, I hope I can see my hard earned money grow.

For me to avoid impulsive buying I need to think ten times if I really need it, or if it really helps. If the answer is no, then I will leave the shop at once. I used to be fond of buying items on sale for my family and myself too. Then I realised that I was spending beyond my budget and I needed to practise self discipline. I have learned to budget my money wisely. We  really need to be careful with the use of our hard earned money and to spend wisely. After all we do not know how long we can have our jobs abroad. By overspending, we will never be able to save.

I have learned how to handle my finances after attending a financial literacy course. I don’t overspend my money like before and I know how to manage my salary. Before I didn’t have any savings because of overspending. I did not budget my earnings. I would buy what I fancy to buy. But now I know how to make a realistic budget.

I am not overspending as I prefer to save it in my health care programme when I am still young. Leaving a budget for investment can remind myself to save and avoid spending too much, that is what I learned from financial literarcy courses.

I believe contentment and self-discipline are the keys against impulsive buying. It is dangerous to make purchases triggered by emotions and feelings. To avoid it, I adopt a safe investing habit. On my days off, I do things that do not cost any money like seeing good friends, reading a book or doing exercises. They cost almost nothing but can increase my self-esteem. Also, I will put the exact amount I need in my wallet and avoid going to shopping sites.
