MANILA (SE): The annual, nationwide Walk for Life, was held across the Philippines, in Pangasinan, Tarlac and Cebu, and in the cities of Cagayan de Oro, Palo and Manila, on February 15.
Church leaders called for people to stand up and show their commitment to defending life and urged to pray that all “threats of life” be put to a halt, including threats from the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19), UCAN reported.
Archbishop Romulo Valles of Davao, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, expressed hope that Filipinos would show interest and commitment to “respecting life.”
“We hope and pray that many of us will be there to show our interest, our commitment, our heart for advocacy in love and respect for life,” he said.
Archbishop Socrates Villegas of Lingayen-Dagupan, said, “All of us should stand up, pray, and defend life given to us by God.”
“It’s very important that we join in this advocacy,” said Bishop Pablo Virgilio David of Kalookan, who added, “If we truly believe that life should be defended, walk for life in all its stages.”
Apostolic administrator of the Archdiocese of Manila, Bishop Broderick Pabillo, chairperson of the Episcopal Commission on the Laity, said, “At this time when we are faced with different issues such as divorce and the death penalty. Let us show everyone that we are united and that we have force in numbers.”
In the Archdiocese of Cebu, VaticanNews reported that people gathered along a stretch of Osmeña Boulevard at dawn to start the procession that led them to the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, where Archbishop José Palma presided over a 5.30am Mass.
“It’s our deepest desire to bring to the Lord what troubles and concerns us. We pray for solutions on the problems happening around the world,” Archbishop Palma said in his homily.

VaticanNews reported that archbishop calling for prayers that scientists around the world be able to find the cure to Covid-19 soon and that the death toll caused by it be put to a stop.
Noting negative impact on the country’s economy, he also asked for prayers for the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who are now affected by the travel restrictions imposed by the Philippine government.
The event, is organised each year by the Council of the Laity of the Philippines and aims to demonstrate “solidarity in upholding the dignity of life.”
