How do you use God-given talents to glorify God?

How do you use God-given talents to glorify God?

I am fortunate and blessed because God gave me a talent in singing. Unknowingly this will lead me closer to him. It all started when I worked in Taiwan in 2005. I was attending a Mass that time. While listening to the beautiful singing of the choir, in an instant a simple prayer popped up in my mind: “Lord I want to join with that choir.” To my surprise God really made a way and answered that simple prayer of mine. I soon became one of those singing in that choir and gradually joining them not just by singing, but also in praising and worshiping God through my singing. Since then, I had been a member of a certain community in that parish. Then here in Hong Kong, I continue my journey in serving God and others too in simple ways, using my God-given talent through singing and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide me. I am giving back the glory to his name. As Saint Augustine said, “He who sings, prays twice.”

I thank God for giving me a talent that I would be able to easily connect with our brothers and sisters. It is a very important tool for us to strengthen the bonding with our brethren and the Church. Also, the positive communications we share make us closer to God and helping each other as this is the commandment of God.

God has given us different talents, but it’s up to us how to use it in our daily life. For me, I think God has given me a talent for serving in the house of the Lord, the Church and his people. I have peace of mind when I am able to give encouragement to someone whose faith in God is lost, by giving them teachings on the Word of God, serving or helping someone who needs help, because I believe if we do good to others God will return it back to us a hundredfold. I do it all for the glory of his name.

Everything I have are God-given. My life, family and friends and all others. It is but right to give him all the glory by making use of his gifts to him through my neighbours.

1 Peter 4:10 says “Serve one another with the gifts each of you received thus becoming good managers of the varied graces of God.”

I use my talent to join the choir every Sunday and spend my whole day to serve and help in my community ministry activities at St. Joseph’s Church like editing, encoding the songs and more.

I also share my talent in teaching my sisters in the community how to edit and operate the Powerpoint in our online commuunity chapter for our prayers.

I post the Word of God in my Facebook as my way of evangelisation. Philippians 4:13 says that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthen me,” and I think that is true.

God created us with our own unique talents. But these talents should be cultivated and developed accordingly. For me, God has given me the gift of singing or the love for music. He has nurtured me to develop my talent to be used for his glory. As I sing and lead the choir in the Church, I believe that I am giving him back honour and praise through singing as a way of showing my gratitude in creating me with these gifts. I can see God’s craftmanship in my strength and desire to use them for his glory.

God has given me the ability to teach. As a teacher, I do not only teach academic lessons inside the classroom. I am also using my God given talent to praise and glorify him in my catechetical ministry. By doing so, I believe I have been using well my gift from God.
