MIC sister final farewell

HONG KONG (SE): Sister Monica Lam, of the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception [MIC], returned to the bosom of our Heavenly Father on July 24, at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital. She was 83-years-old and had been in the religious life for 59 years.

Sister Lam joined the MIC Sisters in 1964 and was the first novice to be formed in the novitiate of Hong Kong.

She was a committed, life-long educator. Before becoming a religious, she was already a passionate teacher. After her initial formation, she was the headmistress of Good Hope School Chinese Primary and English Primary Section, in the late 1960s and early 1970s. She has also taught at Good Hope School from 1970 to 1976. She was the supervisor and principal of Tak Oi Secondary School from 1978 to 2002 and continued to be the supervisor from 2002 to 2009.

Sister Lam was also provincial superior of the MIC Sisters in Hong Kong and assistant regional superior for several terms.

She demonstrated courage and trust in the Lord during the time of her illness, often inviting her MIC Sisters to pray with her for the peace of the world and thank the Lord for all the blessings bestowed on her

A Mass of the Resurrection for Sister Lam will be held on Monday, August 14 at 10.30am, in St. Bonaventure Church, 89 Po Kong Village Road, Tsz Wan Shan, Kowloon. Bishop Joseph Ha will be the main celebrant and priest friends will concelebrate. Cremation will follow at Diamond Hill Crematorium.

MIC community invites people to join them in thanking the Lord for the gift of Sister Lam. They request that no flowers be sent.

May Sister Lam rest in peace.
