The Chaplaincy for Filipino Migrants held an event called “Bible Encounter Goes Civic” on May 26 at the parish hall of St. Jude’s Church in North Point. The aim of this event is to “Study the Word, Live the Word, Share the Word and Be the Word”. Participants were members of different civic groups.

The day’s activities were started with a celebration of a Mass celebrated by Father Jay Francis Flandez, svd.

Before the event started, there was a Bible enthronement and followed by joyful song and dance. Then the different competing teams were presented. An opening prayer was led by Sister Regina Lito, pddm.

In his welcoming address, Father Flandez expressed his gratitude to the parish for the use of the venue and to Sister Regina Lito, spiritual adviser of the St. Jude’s Parish English speaking communities for her assistance.

The event which was hosted by the Liturgical Bible Study Thursday Group, with Cecilia Golez and Christopher Jose as the emcees, was attended by more or less 100 members from different Filipino groups and participants.

Fourteen teams from different civic groups participated in this competition. Each team composed five members.

Sharing their purposes in joining the competion, the Malingin Bago City group said said their purpose is to have a personal encounter with Jesus, while the Ogtonganon group from Iloilo said its purpose is to study and know more about the Bible. The ASMSI HK-Cebu members said they joined so as to fully understand the Word of God.

Everyone was filled with joy as they looked for the answers to different sessions, including multiple choices, open Bible quiz, etc.

The much awaited moment is the announcing of the winners and the presentation of certificates plus the awards. The first prize went to St. Jo’s Friends.
