When I find it hard to pray…

When I find it hard to pray…

Experiencing spiritual dryness rarely happens to me but it does not mean it never happens. When this happens, I would simply sit in front of the tabernacle and gaze at it and feel his presence. Being silent in my heart is also a way of praying.

Sometimes there come a time in my life wherein I find it difficult to pray. To restore me to prayer mode, I listen to religious songs and then often moved by the lyrics. Sometimes I also watch videos related to Christian faith or tune in to online homilies given by different priests. Another thing I do is to sing the song “Come Holy Spirit” and invoke him to inspire me to pray. I would also resist the temptation of not to pray by saying a short prayer.

I confess that when I fail to pray or have the feeling of not willing to pray, I feel guilty. When I’m in the situations like this, I see to it that I have to do something to make up for it.  My way is to listen or watch those uploaded prayers and rosary recitation online. Or I will make a sign of the Cross and utter a short prayer. Through this I feel secured enough that God is with me and he will guide me on my ways.

When I feel spiritually dry, I will look at the mother nature. The water, the trees and everything I see aid me to reflect and meditate on how great our Lord Jesus’ unconditional love for us is. I think sometimes we don’t need to oblige ourself to pray for the sake of praying only and mumbling words that does not come from our hearts. God knows our heart’s longing and needs. All we need is to embrace the goodness and assurance that God is near us and is with us all the time. — Mary Marron

There are days and times in our lives that sometimes seem to paralyze our hearts and leave no words available to us for prayer. I’ll be honest, sometimes I don’t feel like praying. I’m either too busy with my workloads or too tired. When this moment happens, I listen to spiritual songs or watch spiritual talks through the Youtube channels.

I keep on singing praise songs, while doing my daily household chores and at the end of the day, I find myself kneeling in front of my altar, saying my prayers before bedtime. — Ma. Suzette Rodrigueza

As human beings, we cannot avoid that there are times when we don’t feel like praying because we are tired, sad or because of problems. In other words, we are undergoing spiritual dryness. What I do when I do not feel like praying is first to talk to the Lord about how I really feel or just be honest with my thoughts. I could talk with him just like a best friend who is by my side. Second I pray that the Lord gives me strength specially in my spiritual life. I use also some prayers posted to guide me. Lastly I will try to reflect on the goodness the Lord has done to me. Through this I will gradually have the desire to talk with him and ask for his forgiveness as well as other supplications.

I fight these temptation by listening to religious songs. I sing together with the song and make it my prayer. As the saying goes, singing is twice a prayer.

If I do not feel like to pray, I just do a short meditation and after that I tune in to worship songs and sing along. I also do some exercises to refresh my mindset.

I will ask the Holy Spirit to lead and guide me, take me into the presence and power of prayer and meditate. I will start with praising the Lord or play praise songs. Or maybe I will just say the prayer Our Father.
