HONG KONG (SE): A Mass celebrating the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe was held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Concepton on December 12 at 3.00pm. The main celebrant was Father Jay Francis Flandez SVD, with Father Jun Jacobe OMI concelebrating.
In his homily, Father Flandez mentioned that the feast of our Lady of Guadalupe reminds us of the values of the kingdom of God, that we must live and practise as believers and disciples of the Lord.
He said that the message of Our Lady of Guadalupe is for our conversion to become true children of God, a true witness of the Lord and a disciple who is willing to fight and preserve the sacredness of life and protector of the environment—God’s Creation.
The congregation later offered roses before the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe before the altar after it was blessed.
The story of Our Lady of Guadalupe started when Mary appeared to Juan Diego, a poor Aztec peasant on 9 December 1531, and a basilica was later built in the same place.
Our Lady is believed to have left an image of her appearance on his cactus fiber cloak, or tilma, and to give faith and hope to the oppressed natives of Mexico at that time.
