Charity work for love

Charity work for love

For me, helping others is not just about money. There are many ways we can help others and make them feel that life is important. I still remember back then, we were still visiting the hospital to take care of our fellow Filipinos who were sick. I would find a way to visit them. I can’t help them financially, but being able to take care of them and visit them for a moment makes me happy. I can make the patient feel that they are not alone. Simple words of comfort can help to boost their morale. I thank God because even if I am not rich, I am ready to help. and I am happy that I became a member of Saint Francis Church in Ma On Shan, as that paved a way for me to practice corporal works of mercy. — Bernadette Mendoza

To be charitable to other people is one of the important teachings of Jesus to us believers. To put my faith into action I feel happy to share to others whatever I can to help specially the old and weak. Through a charitable organisation I give my donations in cash and in kind. I give some food and clothings and other necessary materials to help and make the needy happy. My group is also committed to visits to the elderly homes. We bring them food and presents, and perform Chinese Opera to entertain and comfort them, sharing with them the love of Jesus and creating in them the feeling of belongingness. — Fanny Lui

I offer my precious time to the service of the Lord. I am a member of the Apostleship Prayer at St Joseph Church. Central. I belong to the music ministry. Being a domestic helper, I have only Sunday off. On this day I devote myself in the church through singing. God gave me this talent and I want to thank him and return it for his glory. However I also contribute a little bit by giving love offering to the needy though not that much. It is what is in the heart that counts. — Lilibeth Abaya

I think every act of kindness, whether in the form of financial, emotional, or spiritual support, is charity. It is not easy to do it because, first and foremost, we must learn to overcome our selfish desire. Thanks be to God for giving me the courage, to always win over it, to be able to give, to help and give support to those less fortunate than me, especially those in dire need. I am so grateful that despite my personal needs and plans, I still manage to help others specially in the worst time of this pandemic. I cannot just sit and ignore those who are hungry, crying out for food. It’s time to decide to break and forget my own plans. — Isabelita Olar

My way of doing charitable act is by sharing food with others specially with my sisters in the church or in the park. If my relatives or friends ask for financial help, I will help them to the best I can. I also support them by prayers. Every Sunday I cook food and share it with my group in the church. That way they do not need to buy at the restaurant and they can save money for the needs of their family. This is my way of caring and showing them my love. I do not think of any return in my deeds. I love cooking. I feel grateful to Our Lord for his blessings upon me. I feel that the more charitable deeds I do, the more blessing I receive from above. — Thelma Olayta

For my charitable works, my ways of helping come in terms of money, time and efforts. First in order to raise some funds, I’m selling bottled drinking water and whatever I gain from it, I use to share and help those in need, especially in the ministry where I belong. Being in charge of our ministry, out of love, I cook foods for them. Life becomes light and easy for my members as they do not need to worry what to bring to eat. Whatever money left, we add and put it to our funds for future use especially if someone is in need. Another thing which I really cherish is helping support a seminarian in need of financial assistance and praying for them. I believe in the saying of Mother Teresa of Calcutta that it is not about how much we give but how much love we put into giving. — Alvin Roman

I help others through monetary donations and other services that manifest the generous and kind heart of a Christian. Intercessory prayer is the first and foremost thing I do in any charitable proceedings I face in my Christian life. Prayer encourages and strengthens me to serve the needy, such as by visiting the sick, join a bible sharing or teaching in my catechism ministry. I also initiated fund raising to help victims of natural calamities and other people who are in dire need. — Miriam Tamingo

We don’t need to be rich to be generous. All we need is to have a good heart and purity of intention, to help others in need. Usually, we tend to give donations and offerings during Mass, or joining in some fundraising for a cause. And this is one of the most common charitable work we do. But for me, the most important work I did, is to give my time, effort and strength by serving the church and its community. It is not just giving my time but more because I offer myself to serve God and his people. — Lorna Tuburan
