Being a lector for more than six years, I am delighted that God called me to serve him. It is a great way to deepen my relationship with him and his words. I often pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to guide me so that I can follow God with humility, obedience and faithfulness. As a Christian, I encouraged everyone to deepen their faith, have a prayer life, attend Holy Mass, be generous to others, and use our talents for God’s greater glory. I thank God for his goodness and amazing grace.

By leading a community in the Church, I can use my gift of leadership to honour Jesus Christ and to motivate others so that we can together serve Christ wholeheartedly. As a lector and commentator, I also serve God and tell the world of his goodness. We can also help the Church by being kind, generous and friendly. If God has given us a gift, he wants us to embrace it and use it to further his kingdom. He will bless us abundantly if we carry out what we have been called to do.

Talents are gifts from God, and it is a privilege to share them with others, particularly in the Church. I do not have good singing or dancing skills, but I can use my voice and skills in hosting events. I always volunteer to host when there are activities at the Church. Not everyone is capable or willing to host an event, so I think this is a talent.

I came to Hong Kong because of financial difficulties. In my parish life, I have discovered my talent for communicating with other people and know how to give comfort to them. I think God calls me to help motivate others and make them feel better if they are feeling down. God has given me communication skills. I use this talent to be a good listener and encourage others to keep fighting for their goals.

In Romans 12:6-8, Paul lists several spiritual gifts, including encouragement. I can use my talent of encouragement to bring people back on track with the Lord. We all need each other if the Kingdom of God is going to grow. Sometimes, a person needs someone else to come alongside them, pick them up and get them back on track again, which is what an encourager does.

Attending Mass, listening to the homily attentively and receiving the bread of life regularly have given me gifts from above. The Lord has given me the gift of generosity and a loving heart as I will help those in need in any way I can. I give my time to those I help by listening to their problems and needs. Without God’s gift, I would not be able to do it. I recall the words of Jesus that whatever we do to the least of our brothers, we do it to him. This is my humble contribution to the Church and the only way I could give back for God’s generosity to me.

With the prompting of the Holy Spirit, I share my talents to serve the community through arranging intercessory prayers for the liturgy. I always pray for others, especially the elderly, the sick and the poor who have no one to pray for them. I pray for world peace, countries at war, their leaders and their citizens. It is difficult to find words to use in prayer during these overwhelming times, but I refer my prayers to God’s promises in the Holy Bible.

Determination and perseverance of doing good in a simple way as a Christian is a talent that I can contribute to the Church and humanity. God gave me the gift of boldness, courage of self-sacrificing and communication skills to help others, especially the victims of exploitation. By understanding their inner feelings and well-being, I will let them feel God loves them.
