HONG KONG (SE): The Holy See Study Mission and the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong will collaborate on the eighth edition of the Musical Concert and Mass, Hope of the world: Art & Faith United, in honour of Pope Francis in June, coinciding with the Feast of Saint Peter and Saint Paul.

The musical concert will take place at Christ the King Chapel, St. Paul’s Convent, Causeway Bay, at 7.00pm on Saturday, June 18. Music director, Christopher Cheng, will conduct the Hong Kong Youth Choir in a performance that will also feature sacred music by Mozart.

The organisers of the event describe the Youth Choir as “young, energetic and versatile. They are one of the few choirs in Hong Kong that remained active during the pandemic and they have given a few online performances during these difficult times. Christopher Cheng, the music director, is one of the best young conductors in town.”

The event requires seating reservations prior to the event due to seating restrictions. According to the event organisers, “the deadline for online reservation is June 15, but if the number reaches the available seats before this date, we will close the platform earlier.” Reservations for seats and other information about the event are available on the diocesan webpage.

The Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Caine Road, at 6.00pm on Sunday, June 26. Organisers say that the Mass attendance does not require reservation of seats. The Diocesan Audio-Visual Centre will webcast the Mass live.

Since 2014, the Study Mission and the Diocese of Hong Kong have jointly organised the annual event of a festive and prayerful concert to manifest love and support of Pope Francis on the occasion of his birthday. But the event had to be rescheduled last year on account of the outbreak of the pandemic. Over 600 faithful attended the solemn liturgy concelebrated by over 30 priests last year.

The celebration of the Mass and concert are now organised in connection with the feast of the two apostles of Rome: Saint Peter and Saint Paul, on June 29.

“They are the two Apostles who are columns of the Catholic Church which link deeply to the See of Rome and the ministry of the pope. We pray for Pope Francis’ mission as Vicar of Christ that he may continue confirming us in faith,” read a communiqué from the office of the Study Mission. It is an occasion for the faithful to be united in one faith and one prayer to invoke God’s assistance and protection for Pope Francis.
