HONG KONG (SE): The Precious Blood Sisters, Hong Kong, began their 25th general chapter on July 30 at the congregation’s general house in Fanling. It is. The gathering, scheduled to run until August 12, is themed, Let us Come together to Witness Hope, and has already seen the election of a new superior general and councillors general.

Jesuit Father Beda Lui Chi-cheng conducted a two-day [July 28 to 29] training session prior to the election and chapter discussions.

On July 30, John Cardinal Tong Hon, the apostolic administrator of Hong Kong, concelebrated the opening Mass with Father Edward Khong.

Cardinal Tong invoked the guidance of the Holy Spirit and, in his homily, reminded the sisters that a leader should have qualities such as being in communion with others in the Lord, embracing others in humility, having collegiality and cooperating with colleagues, while having a far sighted vision.

The cardinal then presided over the general election for the new leadership at which Sister Agnes Au Yi-man was elected superior general and Sister Miriam Lui Yuet-ming assistant superior general; while Sister Paula Lou Kuai Fong, Sister Christina Cheung Suk Yuen, Sister Teresa Lau Lai Ping, Sister Dominica So Chiu Ho, and Sister Maria Lung Suet Ping were elected councillors general.

Sister Au, is an experienced educator with a degree in Education from Taiwan Normal University [1977], and second bachelor’s degree from Canada Concordia University [1989]. She obtained her Master’s degree in Education from the Chinese University Of Hong Kong in 2000.

She headed the Po-Jen Catholic School in Tainan, and the Tack Ching Girl’s Secondary School and Precious Blood Secondary School in Hong Kong. She also served as councillor general for the last 20 years.

Sister Ming has long been engaged in religious formation. After theological training at Fu Jen University in 2003, she took a course for formators at Chicago University in 2006. She was then assigned as novice mistress and the director of the formation programme of the congregation.

Bishop Joseph Ha Chi-shing is to celebrate the concluding Thanksgiving Mass of the general chapter on August 12.
