No one likes to do a difficult task. We most often tend to choose an easy path without pains when we look for jobs or friends. We try to avoid tough work unless really necessary.
However, compared with easy work, a tough task may be more interesting or can give us more satisfaction after it is completed.
There are people who seem able to enjoy the fruit of success apparently without much efforts. But they may have taken great pains in their work that no one knows.
Different people can interprete “pains” differently. St. Paul tells us that, “Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labour.” (1 Corinthians 3:8) It applies to his missionary work, as well as to our own vocations.
St. Paul is encouraging us that the sufferings caused by hard work can be reduced if we think about our goals and the meaning of our efforts or perseverance.
What is your goal this year and why do you set this goal?
