
HONG KONG (SE): Sister Mary Cheung of the Canossian Daughters of Charity passed away on the morning of April 12 at the age of 78. She had been diagnosed in March with terminal cancer, and her condition rapidly deteriorated.
Sister Cheung was born on 14 September 1946, and joined the Canossians on 10 April 1970. She made her first profession on 14 September 1973, and her perpetual profession on 13 June 1980.
During her years of service, shew was sent by the congregation to various places including Macau, Taiwan, Canada, and the United States, devoting herself to education, pastoral care in schools and parishes, and hospital ministry. She diligently worked behind the scenes, bringing blessings to countless individuals.
Sister Cheung was known for her attentiveness and compassion. Whenever she noticed someone struggling or burdened by worries, she would offer comfort and warmth with genuine care.
Despite her declining health in recent years, she remained steadfast in her duties, assisting with the community’s daily needs and providing valuable advice and support. Her cheerful and sincere nature, unwavering service to God, and willingness to help others earned her deep respect and love from many.
Her funeral Mass was celebrated on April 29 at the Canossian Missions Chapel on Caine Road, followed by cremation at the Cape Collinson Crematorium.
Sister Cheung’s family and the Canossian Daughters of Charity express their heartfelt gratitude to Father Francis Tse Kin Shing for personally presiding over the funeral rites and sincerely ask friends and loved ones to continue praying for her eternal repose. May she rest in peace.
