Learning as an overseas worker from the simple life of Pope Francis

Pope Francis leaves a legacy of faith, service and compassion for all. But one lesson I’ve learned and really admired is his simplicity in life, especially how he loved and helped the poor. As he said, “My people are poor and I am one of them.

As an overseas Filipino worker, I always find joy in having less even in my family back home. Living a simple life can be beneficial for several lessons.

If we look back to the past without these new technologies, it really lead to a happier home life as compared to today. Living a simple life can lead behind any pressure in our work place. Contentment is also a result of simplicity, because if a person lives with materialistic attitude, he will never feel what is the valuable purpose, he will become more obsessed for having more.

One thing I really want to emphasize, especially for us OFWs, is that the greatest benefit of living a simple life is the absence of stress. As I come from a simple family, I always find that a simple life leads to a life filled with joy and contentment with faith in God. This is what Pope Francis wanted us to be as he led the Church with humility and simplicity. May his soul rest in peace.
