The Lenten Campaign Committee held a promotion seminar at Newman Catholic College, Yaumatei, on February 15. Deacon John Siu, committee chairperson, introduced this year’s campaign theme, “Pilgrims of Hope”. Committee members, Mandy Cheung and Eva Chow, went into activity details while Deacon Vincent Chan, chairperson of the Lenten Campaign Funding Committee, how the 2024 donations were used.
Father Joseph Yim, chief executive of Caritas-Hong Kong, was the guest of honour.
Deacon Siu explained that the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong has commissioned Caritas-Hong Kong to organise the Lenten campaign since 1986. The donations raised are distributed by the diocese to different organisations to help those in need.
Father Yim said that we should be prepared to live out the spirit of Lent. This year’s theme is in line with the Jubilee Year theme, “Pilgrims of Hope”, as “hope” is the spirit of Lent. We must maintain hope in the face of difficulties to sustain the will to live. Don’t underestimate ourselves, even unintentional actions can affect others. Let us start with ourselves and bring hope to others through our words and actions.
Service without love is meaningless, so we must reach out to others with our hearts, hearts filled with God’s love which we can learn from Jesus. His life is love and service. It is a blessing from God when we serve others.
