HONG KONG (SE): Serra International, the global lay apostolate for vocations within the Catholic Church, celebrates its 90th anniversary in 2025. This milestone reaffirms its commitment to promoting priestly and religious vocations worldwide. Among its many branches, the Serra Club of Hong Kong is also commemorating 62 years of dedicated service to the local Church.

Founded in 1935 and headquartered in Chicago, Serra International focuses on promoting vocations to the ministerial priesthood and consecrated life, while encouraging its members to grow in personal holiness. The Hong Kong branch has faithfully upheld this mission since its establishment in 1963, playing a crucial role in the vocational efforts of the diocese.

Francisca Lo, a member of the board of directors of Serra International and the district governor of the Serra Club of Hong Kong and Macau, expressed joy at the recognition received from the Dicastery for the Clergy in Vatican for the apostolate’s contributions to promoting vocations.

“The Serra Club of Hong Kong actively supports vocational initiatives led by the Hong Kong Diocesan Vocation Committee and the Hong Kong Diocesan Altar Servers Association,” Lo explained, adding, “We also accompany seminarians on their vocational journeys, assist newly arrived foreign missionaries in adapting to local culture, and regularly visit priests and religious sisters to offer support.”

The club’s activities include monthly prayer meetings focused on vocations, regular visits to clergy and religious communities, and an annual retreat designed to help members deepen their response to God’s call to holiness.

The board of Serra International also includes representatives from Thailand and India. Lo believes that including Asian members will strengthen connections with various Serra Clubs across Asia. She emphasized the importance of enhancing relationships among these clubs and expressed optimism that increased participation from Asian members would foster greater collaboration and unity within the region.

As Serra International celebrates its 90th year and the Hong Kong branch reflects on its 62-year journey, both reaffirm their commitment to nurturing vocations and supporting the Church’s mission. These milestones serve as a testament to Serra’s enduring mission to pray, encourage, and serve.
