
HONG KONG (SE): Sister Josephine So of the Canossian Daughters of Charity, died peacefully on January 11 at the age of 93, after 64 years of religious life.
Born in Guangdong, China, on 10 February 1931. She joined the Canossian religious family on 21 November 1956. She made her first profession on 13 May 1960 and her perpetual profession on 24 February 1966. She was subsequently sent to different places to spread the Good News and worked in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. She was ready to accept challenging mandates with faith.
Sister So possessed an open and cheerful character and was faithful in serving God and compassionate to people, especially to poor and the weak. She taught the Bible to the poor children and loved and cared for the orphans, always trying to help them.
For some years she served in the convent kitchen, caring for the wellbeing of her fellow sisters.
In 2011, due to age and health problems, she retired to the Villa Bakhita, the community for the elderly sisters. Through prayer and daily sacrifices, Sister So continued the mission of saving souls for God. The sisters, her family, friends, co-workers, the poor and the needy for whom she cared, were inspired by her cheerfulness, her genuine kindness and unwavering zeal for the kingdom of God.
A funeral Mass was celebrated by Father Francis Xavier Wong at the Canossian Missions Chapel on January 14, followed by burial at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, Happy Valley.
The Canossian Sisters gratefully thank all who helped and respected Sister So during her entire life, and ask for continued prayers for her.
