An evening of Christmas Prayer Concert was organised for the first time by the St. Joseph’s Church in Garden Road, Mid-levels on December 26, carrying the theme “Pilgrims of Hope.”
The event featured prayers and performances by various choirs, including and the Filipino Catholic Group, the Filipino Prayer Group, the Saturday Community as well as the St. Joseph’s Community Choir, a special choir created by parish priest Father Joseph Tan, svd, before the pandemic to sing during special occasions inside and outside of the church.
Assistant parish priest Father Paul Chen started the event by thanking all those present, followed by a series of prayers led by parish clergy and sisters, interspersed with Christmas carols such as “O Holy Night” and “Hark The Herald Angels Sing.”
The congregation also sang the “Pilgrims of Hope” song, the hymn for the Jubilee Year 2025 in anticipation of the Holy Year.
Each performance was initiated with prayer intentions for hope, love and joy, which were led by Sister Weronika Klebba SSpS, Sister Vera Wen Yuan, SSpS and permanent deacon candidate Susith Perera.
Father Tan then gave those present a blessing. The concert concluded with the St. Joseph’s Community Choir’s rendition of “Angels We Have Heard On High,” showing the spirit of hope and joy for the season.
