Shung Tak Catholic English College celebrates 65th anniversary

By Harvey Wong, 5J

November 29 was a day to remember, the day our school, Shung Tak Catholic English College reached a significant milestone—its 65th anniversary! The day was celebrated with a Thanksgiving Prayer Service, and a heartfelt blend of reflection, joy and shared memories, praise and gratitude.  It served as a reminder of the rich legacy we are part of and the vibrant community we continue to build.

I had the honour of serving as one of the emcees, a role that filled me with both excitement and pride. Standing behind the lectern, I felt the weight of our school’s history and a deep sense of connection that binds us all together.

Honoured to be directing such a significant event, I couldn’t help but feel blessed. All of us were part of something far greater than ourselves, a legacy. As I watched everyone join in prayer, I understood how these customs ground us by serving as a reminder of our common goals, values and aspirations.

The mood soon turned vibrant as the celebration unfolded. One of the highlights, was the group photo when the Cardinal Stephen Chow S.J.; Father Li, our school supervisor; and our former supervisors, Father Gervais and Father Arturo joined the audience for the “Smile, Happy Anniversary STC” photo.

This wasn’t just any ordinary picture—it was a joyful moment brimming with warmth and unity. Smiles lit up the room as we captured a snapshot of decades of dreams, hard work, and achievements.

Then came one of the most eagerly awaited moments: the friendly dodgeball match between students and teachers! The whole playground buzzed with energy as both teams took their positions, ready to face off. Every move, dodge, and throw were met with cheers and laughter, showcasing teamwork and sportsmanship on both sides. Teachers surprised us with their agility and strategy, while students gave their all to keep the competition fierce yet fun.

It wasn’t only about winning, it wasn’t just about the score, it was about breaking barriers, connecting beyond the classroom, and celebrating the radiant community we share.

The 65th Anniversary was a celebration of our common past, dynamic present, and bright future rather than merely a time mark. As we look ahead, Shung Tak will continue to build on this legacy of learning, growth, and creating more treasured and cherished memories. Happy Birthday, Shung Tak!
