The Power of Good Deeds

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

“You have been told, O mortal, what is good, and what the Lord requires of you: Only to do justice and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God.” [Micah 6:8]

Doing good is a universal human value. It is also the will of God and it pleases the Lord. Doing good deeds according to our ability brings us spiritual consolation and fulfilment and more importantly, draws us closer to Him.

As a social welfare agency under the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong, Caritas-Hong Kong [Caritas] provides services grounded on Christ’s self-emptying act, His unfailing love and unconditional giving. Following God’s commandments, Caritas cares for the weak, the poor and the marginalised, guiding them to see light in darkness, find hope in despair and blessing in adversity. With the abundance of God’s grace, Caritas can participate in His plan of salvation for the world and impact life with life.

Whether you are a Caritas staff member, a volunteer, a benefactor, a mission partner or a beneficiary of its services, you will no doubt agree that the power of good deeds is reflected not only in the immediate improvement of material life, but also in supporting people to live a dignified life in the long run. Through heartfelt encouragement and messages of hope, people are empowered to overcome difficulties and obstacles, to help themselves and to give back to society.

We are grateful that over the years, dedicated people from different sectors have generously given of their time, effort and money in response to the Caritas fundraising drives, regardless of socio-economic changes and challenges faced. Their tremendous contribution is the foundation of great success.

This year’s Caritas Fund Raising Campaign is about to commence. I would like to appeal for your support by caring for one another, giving generously and exercising compassion. With concerted effort, the synergy of the power of loving kindness can be fully unleashed.

“Trust in the Lord and do good that you may dwell in the land and live secure. Find your delight in the Lord who will give you your heart’s desire. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will act. And make your righteousness shine like the dawn, your justice like noonday” (Psalm 37:3-6).
