Do not judge

Do not judge

Luke 6:27-38 contains a powerful message about love, forgiveness and generosity. It is part of what is commonly known as the “Sermon on the Mount”, where Jesus teaches his followers about the attitudes and behaviour that reflect the values of the Kingdom of God.There are four special words that must describe these Bible verses:

Love your enemies: Jesus instructs his followers to love their enemies, do good to those who hate them, bless those who curse them and pray for those who mistreat them. This teaching is radical because it challenges the natural human tendency to respond to negativity with more negativity. The call is to transcend ordinary responses and embody a higher, divine love.

The Golden Rule: Jesus’ emphasis on treating others as you would like to be treated. This rule is simple yet profound and captures the essence of ethical behaviour. It invites us to consider the impact of our actions on others and to act with empathy and respect.

This passage encourages forgiveness and generosity, saying that if we forgive others, we will be forgiven, and if we give, it will be returned to us in abundance. The idea is that our actions should reflect the grace and kindness we have received from God.

Jesus also warns against judging others, suggesting that the way we judge others is the way we will be judged. He also talks about the measure we use, suggesting that if we are generous and forgiving, we will receive the same in return.

Overall, this passage invites believers to live a love that goes beyond societal norms, to practice generosity and forgiveness, and to embody the compassion and grace that Jesus exemplifies. It is a call to create a more just and loving world through our own actions and attitudes.

As the leader of the Apostleship of Prayer Group, centre 4, I need to always remind myself that I have a unique role in guiding my community in exploring their prayer life and living out the values of love, compassion and generosity.

I have stressed the importance of loving not only friends and family, but also those who may be difficult to love. I have encouraged members to practice this radical love in their daily lives and in their interactions within the group. I will demonstrate the teachings of Jesus through my actions, showing empathy, forgiveness and generosity in my interactions with group members. I will lead the group in prayer, asking for God’s help in living these teachings. By embodying and promoting the values found in Luke 6:27-38, I hope that I can help my Apostleship of Prayer group grow in their spiritual journey and make a meaningful impact in their lives and the lives of others.
