You are the light of this little home
Your love is incomparable
You never give up on any difficulties
Just to give us the life we wish for.
Even your light is fading
You still keep on fighting
You say you have no wealth to bequeath
Education is important; you always teach.
I still remember when we were at the dining table
You told us, to the Lord, we should be thankful
Even for the salt or soy sauce we put in the food.
For we are not starving.
Under the heat of the sun, your skin got burned
In the heavy rain, your body trembled
I could see the pain in your face
Yet you tolerated it to show us that you could handle.
My mother, every time you kiss my forehead
And caress my face with your calloused hand
My heart was bleeding and crying when I realised this
How much you love us is something no one can match.
Since then, I have promised
Your dreams for us will be fulfilled
From poverty, we will uplift.
We’ll pay off all of your tears and sweat.
For now, being far away from you is perhaps my destiny
Your love and advice would be my walking stick throughout my journey
Mountains and seas might put us apart
My love for you will never cease.
Thank you, Mom, for bringing us into this world
Thank you for teaching us to be good
Thank you for always being there when we are in need
Thank you for your relentless understanding
And for your love and care that has no ending.
