New provincial for Salesian province of China

New provincial for Salesian province of China

VALDOCCO (SE): Father Domingos Leong Teng Tok took office as provincial of the Salesian Province of China, on April 6 this year, succeeding Father Joseph Ng Chi Yuen, who served the province since 2018. Father Angel Fernandez Artime, the rector major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, appointed Father Leong to serve from 2024 to 2030.

Father Leong was born in 1961 and joined the Salesian novitiate in 1981, making his first religious profession in 1982. In 1985, he did his theological studies in Newton, New Jersey, in the US and was ordained to the priesthood in 1993. In 2001, he went to Italy for his Licentiate in Liturgy.

After his initial formation, he served the province in different leadership roles, focusing on forming young confreres and teaching in the Holy Spirit Seminary in Hong Kong and others. He has been the vice provincial and delegate for Formation since 2018 until the present.

The dream of Don Bosco came true when the first Salesians came to China in 1916. Since then, the seeds of the Salesian charism have been spread out to different parts of Southeast Asia like Vietnam and the Philippines from where they reached Papua New Guinea, Pakistan, and Malaysia.

The Salesians pray that Father Leong will lead the Salesians and members of the Salesian Family in China to continue the mission of Don Bosco.
