(RVA News): Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, pro-prefect for the Section of Evangelisation of the Dicastery for Evangelisation, reminded the faithful that walking with God means walking in humility, an attitude every Catholic should embrace to fully realize the vision of a truly synodal Church.
In his homily during the closing Mass of the 10th Philippine Conference for New Evangelisation [PCNE] in Manila, the Philippines, on January 21, Cardinal Tagle said that everyone should emulate how God never walks with arrogance or pride.
“When you walk with God, you walk humbly because that’s how God walks,” the cardinal explained. “You cannot walk alongside God and have a different step.”
Coinciding with the country’s local celebration of the feast of Sto. Niño, the Child Jesus, the cardinal said the Church can move forward in its synodal journey by remaining childlike.
“Without losing his divinity, he emptied himself of his glory to be like one of us. That is the synodal path opened to us by the Child Jesus. A walking together in humility,” he said.
Cardinal Tagle stressed that the true secret to living like a child is not spending money to maintain a youthful look but “humility and dependence on God.”
The cardinal said, “A child always walks with his or her parent, and Jesus showed us that synodal path. You walk with others, but you always walk with your Father in heaven… Part of synodality is walking always as directed by the Father.”
He added, “The synodal path is a humble walk shown to us by the Son of God. It is a walk with a humble people. It is a walk with God the Father.”
Cardinal Tagle also reminded attendees of the conference to not consider themselves better than other people just because they frequently attend Church seminars.

“We who attend sessions about evangelisation [or] synodality… we are the ones privileged by Jesus. But let us be humble… Let us not be proud,” he stressed.
The PCNE was launched in 2013 and was the brainchild of Cardinal Tagle himself when he was still Archbishop of Manila.
It is a programme under Manila’s Office for the Promotion of the New Evangelisation held annually every January.
