Celebrating Our Lady of Guadalupe

Celebrating Our Lady of Guadalupe

HONG KONG (SE): Around 300 people came together at 3.30pm at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on December 12, to celebrate Mass on the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The bi-lingual Mass was led by John Cardinal Tong Hon, the former bishop of Hong Kong, and concelebrated by Divine Word Father Jay Flandez, and Oblate Father Jun Jacobe.

Following the Mass, people lined up to offer roses at a shrine, set up to the side of the altar, with image of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

“I felt blessed and happy to have to have been there to honour Our Lady,” one person told the Sunday Examiner.

Meanwhile, CNS reported that Pope Francis said the Marian image “remains impressed on the simplicity of who we are and what we have, which is of little value, but which will become something great in God’s eyes.”

Pope Francis said that Mary’s presence is “permanently impressed” in the lives of Christians just as on the cloak St. Juan Diego, “perfumed by virtues gathered in a world that seems incapable of producing them.”

He said, “Virtues, that fill our poverty in the simplicity of small acts of love, that illuminate our cloak, without us knowing it, with the image of a church that carries Christ in its womb.”
