How can we avoid being victims of scams?

Being content with what we have is the best way to avoid the scams. As we’re living in the age of technological advances, people tend to be confused with what’s real or hoax. I do not prefer electronic transactions as scammers will use certain tools to try and trick people, and they often do so through the mail, online, in person, or over the phone. We have to be more careful and be critical.

We should not share private information, such as family members’ names, our address, emails, and work place, to anyone we don’t know. If we receive email asking for help or money from the people we don’t know, ignore them. Don’t give money or personal information to anyone if unsure. But most of all don’t forget to pray always and ask the Lord for the guidance and protection in our daily life.

Scammers are everywhere. To avoid being a victim of scams, I do not entertain calls or messages from people I do not know. During my days off I attend Mass, praise and worship. And during my free time I read the bible, pray, listening to worship songs to occupy my time.

I remember what my parents told me as a child, not to talk to strangers. I avoid answering calls from unknown numbers or reply to random text messages. Furthermore, I do not believe everything I see on social media, specially those from online sellers claiming their products are great and effective; not all of that are true.

We sometimes want a comfortable life and not fully satisfied of what we have in our lives. That’s the reason why we are tempted to make money in an easiest way and we don’t notice that we can fall victim to scams. To avoid being scammed, I think it is good for us to submit our decisions to God especially when it comes to money. God gives us wisdom to understand the things around us. God gives us a better life and like his promise in (Jeremiah 29:11), “For I know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare, not for the woe, plans to give you a future full of hope.” So let’s rely on the will of the Lord for us and do our best to succeed in our dreams. There is no such thing as easy money.

I haven’t experienced being a victim of scams. But I heard a lot of things and read in the newspapers and in social media about online selling and more on money scams.

We need to be watchful and be wise and not trust easily what we read, specially those people whom we just met. The world is full of deceits nowadays. Be careful and investigate the source first. Pray and always ask for God’s wisdom.

Many people act like technicians or experts about technology, offer help to those who are in need of it, abuse their capabilities, and try to scam those who don’t know anything about it. Using technology is an easy way for scammers to take advantage of their victims and steal their personal information and money online. We need to be vigilant about anything that we do on any online platforms or either in person. Avoid clicking suspicious and unnecessary links that you see, even if they are from a trusted person. Always stop and think before you act. When in doubt, do not rush to make a decision. Give yourself time to study and get as much information as possible from different sources. Consult other people who are knowledgeable about this issue. Scams work because they look like real ones and catch you off guard when you least expect it.
