Art on the theme of Laudato Si’

HONG KONG (SE): A special exhibition of sacred art on the theme of Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si’, opened at the Myeongdong Gallery 1898 of the Archdiocese of Seoul on July 12, running unitl July 20. 

Organised by the archdiocese and titled “Conversations about our common home”, it featured the works of 11 young artists in different mediums such as painting, illustration, stained glass, and calligraphy. The 11 artists were winners of the Sacred Art Young Artist Contest, which was inaugurated in 2021.

Participating artists made their works after reading and meditating on the Laudato Si’. 

Bishop Benedictus Son Hee-song, vicar general of the archdiocese, said,

“When we look at the world created by God, we can recognise its beauty. Taking care of the environment well is to reveal the beauty of God in nature,” he noted

“When thinking about the environment, I hope you make art works with a sense of mission that your work is to reveal the beauty God has put in nature,” Bishop Son said.
