The Catholic Migrant Community (CMC) celebrated their 29th Anniversary on March 19 with the theme “Journeying with Mary as bearers of peace and unity” at the parish hall of St. Alfred’s Church, Tai Wai.
The day started with a Mass celebrated by the assistant parish priest, Father Dominic Fung King-ho, omi. Father Fung blessed the CMC members at the beginning of the Mass.
After an opening prayer by assistant parish priest, Father Ronnie Gicalao, omi, members went one by one on stage and offered a rose to the Blessed Virgin Mary and recited a prayer for migrants as they knelt in front of her image.
Mary Jane Sugatan, president of the group, gave a welcome address after which a short video presentation of the CMC’s journey was shown.
Father Slawomir Kalisz, OMI, and parish priest lauded the group for their special love to Our Lady. Images of our Lady were given to the guests and other groups present.
The CMC members and other communities of the parish performed their dance numbers and songs to the delight of the audience. The Elim community got the best performance award with their dance performance in Filipino native costume.
A surprise number was presented by two young daughters of a parishioner, Elisha and Isabelle Poon, as they sang “Jesus Loves Me”.
Racquel Salagunting, a member, shared a testimony relating on how she felt after joining the group and being supported by them specially in her spiritual journey with the Lord.
Recognition plaques of appreciation were awarded to members who participated and supported the celebration. Sister Mary Cordero, osf, and spiritual adviser, was invited to go on stage to receive an unexpected plaque of appreciation for her support for the group. A cake was presented to her for her 10th Anniversary in the religious profession, as the choir group serenaded her with the song “May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You”. SE
