The power of persistent prayer

The power of persistent prayer

In early morning of October 15, I was awakened by a weird paining on my feet and I felt itchy too. I woke up to see what was happening. I saw my feet swollen, with thick rashes and some puffed-skin watering inside.

What’s happening? Instead of waking up happy with thanksgiving in my heart I was somewhat diverted to being troubled. This was not the kind of present I was expecting on my birthday.

Initially, we are supposed to celebrate my simple birthday in the farm together with my family to have our lunch together. All I wanted was to have a quality time with them there. But my plan was just spoiled. I ended up seeing a doctor because I felt my feet were  getting worst and the pain was spreading to my ankles.

I was waiting for my time to be called in the clinic but my thoughts were just fighting inside me. Where did I possibly get this? I may have eaten something that could have worsen it or got it from bites of ants or poisonous plants? I just do not know.

I was comforted knowing I am treated with antibiotics to prevent the wound from further swelling.

My family was worried as much as I do.  And their concern was more than enough for me to know I am loved and cared for. I thank God for the gift of family.

The next day, which was a Sunday, I was a bit confused if I should go to church or not. Despite some discomforts, the weather was not favourable to travel to a nearby town of San Miguel on a motorcycle. I persisted to go.  I did not allow discomfort and bad weather to hinder me. My heart was full as I have many things to say and thank the Lord.

On my bended knees, I thank God for the gift of life, for all the favours, guidance, protection and provision all those 45 years of existence. In addition, I was moved by the Gospel that day as if it was intended for me. To pray and thank God not only in good times but also in bad days of our lives.

We thank God not only when we are happy but also in our saddest times. We remember God not only in our joys and laughters but also in tears and pains. We need to thank God not only on our birthdays but every waking days of our lives. Sometimes our prayers may not be answered in the way we want but God has always a better plan for us.

God gave me trouble on my birthday not to discourage and disappoint me but to help me realise the power of persistent prayer.
