Mary, who are you, O fair maid, chosen one?
Your soul proclaims the Lord,
And your spirit exalts in God your Saviour.
Who are you, to be the mother of my Lord?
Even God had such reverence for you
That he chose you from all women
And Jesus, in your womb, he grew.
Mary, who are you that the Son of God
Called you his mother?
No other was as pure
Of this, God was sure.
All generations shall call you blessed.
Resplendent as the Son,
Fair as the moon,
The fairest reflection
Of the Son’s rays.
The daughter of the Holy One.
Our first parents disobeyed
And so a new and Holy family God made.
Jesus came to undo the sin of Adam,
But he needed a New Eve,
Untouched by sin, as Eve had been.
To show his humility,
He became part of a human family.
He promised that we wouldn’t be orphans,
So a Heavenly Father we had,
And now a Mother, that we all need.
Honour thy Father and thy Mother
Take the perfect example of our Brother.
We are part of this Heavenly Family,
So take your place, bought for you
By the Son’s sacrifice upon the Cross.
Take Mary into your home
Just as John, his favourite one,
And you will honour her as Jesus does.
Who are you O Mary, fairest one?
Daughter of the Father and Mother to the Son.
We honour you for all generations.
We call you blessed Holy Mary,
Mother and spouse of the Holy One.
Father, Son and Holy Spirit
By God’s decree we call you blessed.
God knows that his children need their Father
But he humbled himself to come upon earth
In the human family we know his birth.
And so he showed us the love of a mother
Keeping his promise from of old.
Never leaving us alone
Part of his family
with Mother, Father and the Son.
