Seoul (SE): The Committee for Life of the Archdiocese of Seoul, South Korea, joined the 40 Days for Life prayer campaign which runs from September 28 to November 6. It is the second undertaking of its kind this year, the first was held from March 2 to April 10 in front of Hongik University in Seoul.
The campaign began with an hour-long rally on September 28 near Myeongdong Cathedral. Campaigners held up placards and posters with slogans such as “Respect Life” and “A fetus is a human being from the beginning,” while praying the rosary.
The Church in Korea has long campaigned for the protection of life and opposed the legalisation of abortion based on its stance on the “sacredness of life” which teaches that human life must be protected “from the very moment of conception.”
The Committee for Life was established by the late Nicholas Cardinal Cheong Jin-suk in October 2005, emphasising the values of life and the family.
The committee aims to spread and nourish a culture of respect for life.
