
MANILA (RVA News): Pope Francis named Monsignor Ruben Labajo, vicar general of the Archdiocese of Cebu, to be ordained auxiliary bishop of Cebu, the Vatican announced on June 23.
“I am completely overwhelmed by the news,” he told Radio Verits on June 24.
Born on 24 September 1966 in Talisay City, he completed his philosophy and theology studies at the San Carlos Seminary College in Cebu and was ordained a priest for the archdiocese on 10 June 1994.
Among his previous assignments, he was parish vicar in Mandaue City from 1995 to 1997; pastor of Santa Fe Parish in Bantayan Island; and moderator at the parish of St. Joseph in Talisay’s Tabunok village.
He also served as moderator of the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral and vicar forane [archpriest or dean] of the Vicariate of the Most Holy Rosary from 2014 to 2019.
In 2017, he became a member of the archdiocesan Council of Consultors, Episcopal Vicar of the 1st District, and a member of the Presbyteral Council.
In 2020, the bishop-elect Labajo was appointed vicar general and moderator of St. Francis Assisi Parish in Balamban town.
The date for Monsignor Labajo’s episcopal ordination has yet to be announced.
